Continuing Education Policy and Procedure

STUDENT COST AND WORKLOAD

The NAN is pleased to offer reduced prices to our members. Course costs are $15.00 per credit for NAN Professional, Associate and Affiliate Members and $5 per credit for NAN Student Members. A current NAN Member ID is required at the time of registration. Membership in NAN is not required for participation. The Non-member rate is $20.00 per credit. To become a member of NAN visit the Membership page.

At the time of registration, students who are participating for CE credit in psychology must select a checkbox to indicate that the student is a CE participant. There is a $5.00 fee for CE processing.

CE credits are allocated on a 1 credit per hour of work rate with a maximum of 2 CE credits earned per week.

Each week students complete online course modules that may include assigned readings and activities, discussion questions posed by instructors, and online multiple choice questions. Each module is intended to take 2 to 3 hours to complete.

Upon successful completion of the formal course requirements and course evaluation, participants who have selected the CE option will receive 30 CE credits from the National Academy of Neuropsychology. Participants who did not select the CE option, will receive a certificate of course completion.

The National Academy of Neuropsychology is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NAN maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

COURSE REGISTRATION and NAN MEMBERSHIP

The most efficient way for NAN DistanCE students to take advantage of National Academy of Neuropsychology member benefits for our online courses is for DistanCE students to be NAN members at the time of course registration. Individuals who wish to become members should submit an application well before DistanCE registration and subsequently register for the member rate once the application has been processed and the student has received a member ID. DistanCE students should allow 2-3 weeks for processing a membership application.

Because our courses sometimes fill quickly, there may not be sufficient time for to have a membership application processed prior to course registration. Individuals who register for DistanCE courses as non-members may submit a membership application after course registration but before the official course start date and apply the difference between the member and non-member DistanCE rates to the membership fee. DistanCE students taking this option should clearly mark this on the membership application and submit payment at the appropriate membership level minus the difference between the member and non-member rate for the DistanCE course (see Table below).

Course Non Member Rate Member Rate Reimbursement/Cost
Clinical Neuroanatomy$600$450Annual Membership plus $25 reimbursement
Professional Ethics$320$240$80 credit toward membership dues

If applicable, reimbursements will be provided once the membership application is complete and has been approved. NAN membership credit can be applied toward membership dues in the calendar year during which the CE course was taken, or to the following years membership dues.

ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT PERFORMANCE

To earn continuing education credits or certificates of completion students must 1) complete multiple choice posttest examinations, earning a cumulative percentage >74% correct and 2) participate in assigned course discussions and activities as judged by the instructor. The DistanCE online system automatically records performance on our multiple-choice exams, which may be taken multiple times.

The system also allows instructors to access student contributions to the course discussion board to judge the substance of student contributions.

RESOLUTION OF QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS

Students have a number of options for expressing concerns. Students typically post questions and concerns on course discussion boards. The course instructors respond to questions related to course content and progress. The DistanCE Coordinator responds to those concerns and any others that may arise (e.g., problems with computing systems). Students may also email the Coordinator at distance@nanonline.org.

INCOMPLETE POLICY (Effective March 10, 2006)

Students who do not complete a course are eligible to re-enroll in a subsequent offering of that course. Students must re-enroll before capacity limitations and registration deadlines have been met. A non-refundable administration and instruction fee of 25 percent of the course cost will be applied at the time of re-enrollment. The NAN DistanCE program does not guarantee that a course in which you have enrolled will be offered at a later date.
